When will it snow? Make your guess

How does it work?
You must be a registered user of WRAL.com to play. (Click the orange "Log in" button to the right of the contest graphic. You will need to register with WRAL.com and create an account if you don't have one already.) Once logged in, you will be asked to guess the date of the next measurable snowfall at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. You also must pick the depth of the snowfall in inches and tenths of inches. Ties will be broken based on the earliest contest submission. Winners will be based on official reports from the National Weather Service.

Can I still play if the contest has already started?
Yes. You are eligible for the grand prize (see below) as long as your pick was made at least 24 hours before the start of the snowfall.

Who are the winners so far?
We declared a winner based on the 0.8 inches of snowfall measured at RDU on Dec. 4, 2010. Congratulations to Laura Mason of Raleigh. She guessed that 1.2 inches of snow would fall on Dec. 4.

And Nicole Krieger of Clayton nailed it on the head, guessing 0.4 inches would fall on Dec. 16. She also wins a sled, shovel and rock salt. William Coffland Jr. of Whispering Pines also was declared a winner. He guessed on Dec. 23 at 12:51 p.m. that 7.0 inches would fall at RDU starting on Dec. 25. The snow did indeed start on Dec. 25, and the storm total was 7.1 inches. Congratulations, William! Our latest winner was Christi Broadway of Morrisville. She guessed that 0.3 inches would fall at RDU Airport on Jan. 10 -- and it did. We will continue the contest and allow users to make predictions for subsequent snowfalls at RDU. Note: All entries made on or before Jan. 9, 2011 will be discarded for Round 5 of the contest.

Can I make more than one entry?
Yes, each registered can make up to 3 entries during each contest period. We clear out the database after each snowfall. How are ties broken?
The visitor who made his or her guess first will win the prize since it will be easier to come closer to the correct amount as forecasts are issued.

Are there prizes?
The winner gets a Flexible Flyer sled autographed by Greg Fishel, a snow shovel, rock salt and hot cocoa mix. Other prizes may be awarded based on contest sponsors.
